Mitchell-David L. Espiritu

Mid-Level Associate

Tackling and solving complex problems is something Mitch has trained for all of his life. As early as grade school, Mitch honed his skills in steering both men and socio-civic projects through the various leadership positions he held. His dedication to serving his peers and immediate community never wavered even during his senior year in law school when he served as Student Council President. His involvement in student government enabled him to master his time and exact a level of quality and productivity in his work that is equal to his unrelenting standards. This level of commitment is best seen in the cases that he has handled.

Being the visionary that he is, Mitch comprehends the legal queries directed to him in their context and entirety and solves disputes with his quick wit and creative approach. With his experience in handling teams and undertakings, he has a knack for seeing the big picture and addresses his client’s needs while still keeping an eye on the details of the case. He thrives on the complicated problems thrown at him and embraces them as if they were his own to manage and complete.

Mitch’s primary focus lies in litigation, labor, and immigration. He can often be found battling it out in the Offices of the City Prosecutor and Regional Trial Courts in various jurisdictions, discussing settlements in the National Labor Relations Commission, or personally assisting clients in the Bureau of Immigration. His insatiable curiosity of the law also leads him to tackle various practices for a wide range of clients who have diverse legal problems. He dauntlessly handles cases in unfamiliar territories with novel issues and considers them opportunities to learn and excel. Q&A

You graduated with a degree in Management Engineering in college. How does that help you as a lawyer and why the sudden change in career path?

Honestly, I have yet to apply the specific lessons I learned in undergrad in my law career. However, what often sticks in whatever level of education you achieve would be the discipline and work ethic honed during those years of learning.

For me, graduating with a degree in Management Engineering taught me the discipline of having a systems approach to analytical thinking and decision making, and the mental fortitude to take on any challenge by breaking them down into understandable constants and variables.

I would like to think that choosing to go into law is not a change in career path as law is all-encompassing in all industries. What makes a great lawyer, though, would be applying the knowledge gained from all the learnings and experiences had in whatever industry to be able to deliver comprehensive advice and a holistic solution to whatever problem the client faces.

You have had a history of holding various leadership positions in every level you were in and in various organizations you’ve been part of. How do you manage to do so while juggling other obligations on your plate?

Volunteering or running for a leadership position is natural for me as I make it a point to be involved in whatever organization I am part of. Likewise, I have always been motivated to bring in together people and their diverse talents and capabilities for a bigger cause. Thus, I never tire of being of service to other people, to the organization, and to the community.

You are one of the first associates of the Firm. How does it feel being part of the Firm from the beginning and how has it been for you so far with the Firm?

Joining a then start-up firm was thrilling for me. It excited me to be one of the pioneer associates of a Firm with great potential considering the roster of stellar lawyers and experienced mentors. It is also great to set-up the foundation to have a healthy and nurturing culture. Seeing the growth of the Firm and of myself as a lawyer, I am proud to be part of one for the rising law firms in the country and in Southeast Asia. Never has a day gone by that I have not been grateful for taking the leap and joining the Firm.
