Q&A
Why did you take up law?
Lawyering runs in our blood. My grandfather, my dad, and a lot of my uncles paved the way for me to take this path. I remember my grandfather, and my dad would bring me to their court hearings and law office as a young boy. I was brought up in the belief that I am also destined to become a Fernandez lawyer myself.
What area of law do you want to specialize?
I believe that every lawyer must learn and master the skill of litigation. I think Litigation and Dispute Resolution is a core practice that all lawyers should experience. However, I also believe that lawyers should work on things that find relevance in their hobbies and interests. I am passionate about sports, particularly basketball. I would love to integrate my passion for basketball with my profession. I think it would be great to practice Sports law and be able to handle sports-related or basketball-related cases and clients.
What is the most important advice your family taught you as you endeavor the study of law?
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do.” My family has a deep relationship with God. I was brought up to be a God-fearing Christian, always mindful that I am nothing without God’s guidance, wisdom, and strength. We rely on God for His ultimate guidance and protection in everything that we do. This is the teaching that we strive to imbibe in our daily lives. This is the reason why I value integrity, above all, in the study and practice of law.
