Ines Katrina M. Llamzon

MID-LEVEL ASSOCIATE

Recognizing early on her strong advocacy for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), Nika has volunteered in different organizations that assisted PDLs in improving the quality of their lives and acquiring legal know-how to understand their cases better. This advocacy has motivated her to take up criminal litigation as her primary practice.

Driven by her burning passion for both the legal profession and client satisfaction, Nika puts in the hours to come up with creative ways to handle her clients’ cases and prepare for possible scenarios in the courtroom. With her reassuring personality and strong communication skills, she puts her clients’ minds at ease in every step of the litigation process.

Aside from criminal litigation, Nika’s legal practice also involves civil and corporate litigation, as well as corporate housekeeping. Her courtroom prowess has led her to appear before the Trial Courts, Sandiganbayan, and Department of Justice. With a great eye for detail, Nika offers not only mainstream, but also alternative solutions to clients’ legal troubles. She provides meticulous and creative legal strategies which seek to encompass all potential outcomes to minimize risk and avoid worst case scenarios.

Easily intrigued, she has a penchant for true-crime documentaries and bizarre cases, which makes her fact-finding and scrutiny skills superb. For Nika, every case she handles is just another mystery waiting to be solved.

Q&A

What advocacy are you most passionate about?

I am a staunch advocate for the rights of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). In college, I was a member of Ateneo Baliklaya, a prison service organization, where we organized projects to help PDLs improve the quality of their lives, and enhance skills which they can utilize not only inside but also, and more importantly, outside detention facilities after they have served their sentence.

In law school, I was an active volunteer in legal aid missions conducted inside several correctional facilities where we helped the PDLs understand their cases better by giving informative lectures on the rules of criminal procedure. Recently, I was invited by the Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation, a non-government organization that shares my advocacy, to speak in its paralegal training for provincial jail officers in pursuit of their combined efforts towards court and jail decongestion.

When you are not in the office or in the courtroom, where do you usually spend your time?

During my free time, you will most likely find me on the beach or on the island. The calming sound of the waves, the texture of sand between my toes, and the breathtaking view of nature allow me to relax and unwind. The beach has always been a great place for me to meet new people and experience adventures which make me feel alive.

What attitude have you adopted that has helped you get through work and life?

For me, it is important to embrace the hustle. We cannot go through life by just sitting around and waiting for things to fall into place. I have always believed that hard work and passion go a long way in achieving our goals in life.
